CHICAGO, IL (October 6, 2017) — Covenanters routinely share links to social media articles and videos that Covenant News Service believes may be of interest to others. Each Friday we post five of them. Following is a sample of those submissions—their inclusion does not represent an endorsement by the Covenant of any views expressed.
Why We Yawn
You almost certainly will start yawning soon. If you haven’t already.
From the article: “But one thing is for sure, as Shoup-Knox’s co-author, Andrew Gallup, points out: we often can’t control the need to yawn, and it isn’t always (or even most often) triggered by boredom. Therefore, he concludes, ‘it happens in a meeting, it should not be a sign of disrespect or insult.’ (Rather, maybe the opposite is true — maybe it means we’re thinking so hard, we need to cool our brains down?)”
How Fake News Turned a Small Town Upside Down
Rumor, prejudice, and the lack of information about a crime involving minors combined to make a combustible mix, and an entire community has continued to suffer. What happened in Twin Falls, Idaho, is not unique to the city—or churches.
From the article: “The same qualities that bind the townspeople together can, in turn, be alienating to newcomers. The refugee community has begun to experience this effect as its demographic makeup has changed. Over the past decade and a half, as conflict spread across North Africa and the Middle East, Twin Falls started to resettle larger numbers of refugees with darker skin who follow an unfamiliar religion — two things that make it difficult to blend into a town that is 80 percent white.”

These Are the Weirdest Productivity Hacks
Just think how productive you could be if you did some hula hooping and took phone calls while riding a surf board.
From the article: “But when traditional methods fail, some professionals and leaders go above and beyond to tap into their most productive selves. Here are a few of the strangest methods they swear by.”
Jerry Rice Is Playing Like a Champion
It is practically a given that something will not go as planned during a wedding. Some are unforgettable – in a good way.
From the article: “Rice is the NFL’s all-time leader in receptions, receiving yards, and touchdowns. Many would say that the former San Francisco 49er and Oakland Raider is the greatest player to ever put on football pads and a helmet. He also happens to be a hall-of-fame wedding crasher.”
Why Do Bobbleheads Usually Look So Terrible?
Humans may be made in the image of God, but bobbleheads are rarely made in the image of the humans they are supposed to represent. Feel free to use that in a sermon illustration.
From the article: “Bobbleheads can also have a direct impact on ticket sales. Several executives mentioned that demand for tickets always goes up the night of bobbleheads giveaways, usually on weekends when more families come to games. Fans come earlier to games to pick up their collectable and, as a result, spend more money on merchandise and concessions. Bobbleheads are the number one driver of ticket sales, according to Sklar.”
