HOPKINTON, MA, (December 5, 2017) — Once again Community Covenant Church is offering runners from around the country the rare opportunity to participate in the Boston Marathon on April 16, 2018, with having to pay an entrance fee or run a qualifying time.
Although some 30,000 people run in the marathon, entering the event is difficult. In addition to the $350 entrance fee, the applicant also must have run a qualifying time at a previously certified marathon.
Because of the congregation’s volunteer work with the race, Community Covenant, which is located in Hopkinton where the race begins, receives two racing numbers and gives them to runners who promise to raise funds through sponsorships.
Over the past decade tens of thousands of dollars have been raised for the church’s camping, children’s and youth ministries, as well as Hindustani Covenant Church ministries to children in India.
The average amount raised by runners is $3,000, said pastor Bruce Johnson.
Anyone interested in receiving a number should contact Johnson by email at ComCovHop@verizon.net or by telephone at (508) 397-5814.
