CROMWELL, CT (March 13, 2018) – Retired Covenant minister Charles “Chuck” Duey Sr. died March 7, 2018. He was 89 years old.

Chuck was born August 1, 1928, in Miami, Florida. He earned a bachelor’s degree in Spanish and secondary education from the University of Miami, and a master of divinity from Fuller Theological Seminary. He earned a master of theology from Princeton Theological Seminary and a doctor of ministry in communications theory from Andover Newton Theological Seminary.

He married Alice Lindquist in 1951. During his studies at Fuller the couple served several Spanish-speaking churches. After completing his degree Chuck was ordained in the ECC. Together he and Alice served as missionaries in Alaska and in Ecuador, where they established a congregation in Guayaquil. After concluding their missionary service, Chuck pastored the Covenant Congregational Church in Hartford, Connecticut, for 20 years starting in 1967. He also served as interim minister at four United Church of Christ congregations.

Alice died in 1977. He married Eleanor Johnson in 1978.

Survivors include his wife, Eleanor, as well as three children from his first marriage: a daughter, Cheryl A. Duey (James Ingala), and two sons, Charles John Duey Jr. (Tara Webb) and Craig Duey (Bonny Lynch). He also is survived by two stepdaughters: Jeanne Peterson (Steve Zieger) and Karen Peterson (Mark McNamara). Other survivors include nine grandchildren and four great-granddaughters.

A memorial service will be held at the Church of Christ in Newington, Connecticut, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 28. Memorials may be made to the benevolence fund of Covenant Village of Cromwell, 52 Missionary Road, Cromwell, Connecticut 06416.
