SCOTTS VALLEY, CA (April 17, 2018) – Retired Covenant minister Michael FitzGerald died Sunday. He was 65.

Mike was born August 24, 1952, in Bremerton, Washington, to John and Patricia FitzGerald.

He attended the University of Washington and then graduated with a bachelor of arts degree in journalism from California State University-Sacramento, and from North Park Theological Seminary.

Mike married Cynthia Towne on August 30, 1975.

They served Mercer Island (Washington) Covenant Church; Rochester (Minnesota) Covenant Church, and Community Covenant Church in Santa Cruz, California.

Mike had battled with cancer for several years. Last year he published A Wild Bouquet: A Gathering of Verse. In it he wrote:

How to let go is all we really choose
though death demands the final choice.
We cannot stop the crashing wave, but only let
it throw us beyond our lives.

Survivors include his wife,  mother; two daughters, Amy (Chris) FitzGerald and Lindsey (Thomas) Prudzynski; and four grandchildren. His father preceded him in death.

A memorial service will be conducted May 20 at Community Covenant Church in Santa Cruz.
