Covenant Authors Win IVP Readers’ Choice Awards

CHICAGO, IL (December 6, 2018) – Covenant ministers Dominique Gilliard and José Humphreys earned first-place honors in the InterVarsity 2018 Book of the Year Awards.

Gilliard, director of racial righteousness and reconciliation for the Love Mercy Do Justice (LMDJ) mission priority, earned the honor for Rethinking Incarceration: Advocating for Justice That Restores in the general category. Humphreys, pastor of Metro Hope Covenant Church and a Companion columnist, won in the praxis category for Seeing Jesus in East Harlem: What Happens When Churches Show Up and Stay Put.

Readers submitted more than 500 nominations for the contest in November. Editors winnowed them down to finalists. Readers were asked to choose two from the IVP Books and IVP Academic categories and one from other categories.

Sarah Shin, a member of Highrock Covenant Church in Quincy, Massachusetts, was a finalist for her book Beyond Colorblind. Former Companion columnist Kathy Khang earned an honorable mention for Raise Your Voice: Why We Stay Silent and How to Speak Up.
