Donations for Relief in the Bahamas Being Accepted

CHICAGO, IL (September 5, 2019) – Covenant World Relief is partnering with Medical Teams International in the Bahamas to provide disaster health kits.

The kits contain antiseptic wipes, soap, a toothbrush, toothpaste, and other essential items to support individuals in a shelter for a week.

Hurricane Dorian slammed into the Bahamas as a Category 5 hurricane with winds that reached up to 200 mph. Entire communities were flooded and flattened. At least 13,000 homes have been completely or mostly destroyed. The official death toll of 20 is expected to rise.

Covenanters may give to relief effort by giving online or sending a check. Online donors can use the dropdown menu under “choose your designation” and click “Bahamas.” Checks should be addressed to Covenant World Relief, Evangelical Covenant Church, 8303 W. Higgins, Chicago, IL 60631 with the designation “Bahamas Relief.”

“Dorian is the most devastating hurricane ever to hit the Bahamas, and we have the opportunity to share Christ’s compassion through our longtime partners who have provided critical care around the world,” said Covenant World Relief & Development director Dave Husby.

The storm is now pounding the Carolinas where it has poured torrential rains, driven storm surges of up to eight feet, and spawned several tornadoes.

Love Mercy Do Justice is partnering with the Southeast Conference to monitor Dorian’s progress along the coastal eastern United States. “We will keep the Evangelical Covenant Church informed of possible regional response in the days ahead,” said Christine Moolo of Love Mercy Do Justice-xx.
