WHEATON, IL (April 27, 2020) – A Spiritual First Aid Online Summit to be held Thursday will provide practical, intuitive, and evidence-based information to Christian leaders as they seek to holistically minister to others.
The Humanitarian Disaster Institute (HDI) at Wheaton College has partnered with Food for the Hungry, NavPress, and Outreach, Inc. to present the event. The Covenant is a supporting sponsor.
Attendance is free, but registration is required. Messages are pre-recorded and can be accessed on-demand that day or any time after the event.
Speakers include Covenanters Efrem Smith, co-lead pastor of Bayside Church, Midtown; and Brenda Salter-McNeil, associate professor of reconciliation studies at Seattle Pacific College.
Talks will address how to assess five core needs HDI has identified as critical in the wake of a disaster:
- Belonging: relationships
- Livelihood: health, finances, resources, and employment
- Emotional: mental health
- Safety: suicide, harm to self, threat to others, domestic violence
- Spiritual: faith, spiritual struggles, meaning-making, purpose
Registrants will receive a free copy of HDI’s newly released Spiritual First Aid Manual, a one-year subscription to Outreach magazine, a free prayer course from N.T. Wright, and information about a “Get One, Give One” initiative to provide The Message of Hope to frontline disaster relief.
