Covenanters Raise More than $250,000 in 6K

Members of Evangelical Covenant Church congregations raised more than $250,200 for Covenant Kids Congo powered by World Vision during the Global 6K event on May 22.

Funds raised will provide clean water to more than 3,000 children in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Six kilometers is the average distance a person in the majority world walks to access clean water.

Lyndsey Watson, Covenant Kids Congo specialist, said 62 teams comprising a total of 2,220 people participated.

“For congregations just getting back to in-person gatherings, the 6K served as a wonderful way to re-gather and worship God by serving others,” Watson said. “We had mission friends join from around the world, including Australia, the Netherlands, Germany, and even one of our missionaries who was en route to the Democratic Republic of Congo.”

Watson said the churches participating included all types of congregations, ranging in size, ethnicity, location, and whether they were historic churches or new plants. Many participants gathered together for the event while others walked alone or with their families.

“It was a beautiful example of our small but mighty denomination coming together to shine the light of Christ in a tangible way that will literally change the lives of children and families in DRC forever,” said Watson.

Watson also encouraged people to save the date for next year’s 6K on May 21, 2022.
