Curt Peterson to serve as Interim Executive Minister of Serve Globally

September 7, 2021

Dear Mission Friends,

In these times of uncertainty and unrest in the world, our sovereign Lord promised in Deuteronomy 31:6 to be with us and never to leave or forsake us. We continually witness God’s faithfulness and this promise with each passing day.

We are humbled to share that Curt Peterson has accepted the call to serve as the Interim Executive Minister of Serve Globally, from September 1, 2021, through June 30, 2022. The Covenant Executive Board has affirmed Curt’s call. We are confident that Curt’s pastoral, missional, and executive leadership experience will faithfully serve the denomination and the Serve Globally team in this season.

Curt is a loved and respected leader, and a true mission friend. He brings integrity, excellence, wisdom, humility, and resolve to this important role. We are blessed that the Spirit has led him to serve in this season.

An ordained Covenant pastor for more than 45 years, Curt is well-known throughout the Covenant. For 12 years he served as the Executive Minster of Serve Globally. Curt has a deep history with the Covenant, incredible international experience, deep institutional memory, elevated cross-cultural awareness, knowledge of the challenges and opportunities that global personnel face, and familiarity with Serve Globally ministry efforts and support systems. These qualities make him uniquely fit to serve as the Interim Executive Minister of Serve Globally.

“I am honored and humbled to be asked to serve in global mission leadership again in this important time of opportunity and challenge for the Covenant in the ministry of the gospel worldwide,” Curt says. “For the past five years, Al Tizon and our Serve Globally leadership team and global personnel have embraced a biblical missiology and practice that is the integral, holistic, and reconciling work of the gospel of the kingdom of God for this world. I fully embrace these values and commit to encourage and empower this mission further through the gifted and faithful global personnel we are blessed to have serving God’s mission through the Covenant. By the grace of God, I will serve the Serve Globally and Covenant community for this interim period fully dependent on the grace, wisdom, and strength of God each day.”

In his role, Curt will give leadership to the Serve Globally mission priority area, which encompasses global personnel, congregational engagement and mobilization, global relief and development, and Paul Carlson Partnership. He will lead and coordinate international efforts, emphasizing partnerships with national churches and organizations, as well as mobilizing engagement and support among Covenant congregations in the U.S. and Canada.

We are grateful for Curt’s experience, and the diverse gifts and qualities he brings to this role. Please join me in praying for Curt, the Covenant’s global personnel, our entire Serve Globally team, and our global partners.

With profound gratitude,
