Carol Dahlberg, wife of retired Covenant pastor and former superintendent of the Great Lakes Conference David Dahlberg, died January 29 at Covenant Living of the Great Lakes in Grand Rapids, Michigan, where she has resided since 2013. She was 90.

She was born March 13, 1931, in Buffalo, South Dakota, to Clarence and Ruth (Klammer) Thompson. She grew up in Binford, North Dakota, and received her high school education there. She earned a four-year degree at Augsburg College in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and began her career in the Home Economics Department of Northern States Power Company.

On August 9, 1958, she married David Dahlberg, an ordained pastor in the Evangelical Covenant Church and began a long life of service to the church. Together they served churches in Fridley, Minnesota; Tinley Park, Illinois; Attleboro, Massachusetts; and Jamestown, New York. Dave served as the superintendent of Great Lakes Conference for 20 years, while Carol ministered by his side, supporting pastors and congregations. They retired in 2002 to Muskegon, Michigan, prior to moving to Grand Rapids.

After their two children, Mark and Mary Kay, died suddenly within seven months of each other, Carol mourned their passing daily but grieved with dignity, poise, and faith.

She was predeceased by her children Mark and Mary Kay and her parents. She is survived by her sister Marilee Fedje (Bernel); son-in-law Bob Clauson; daughter-in-law Mary Beth Dahlberg; three grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on March 1 at First Covenant Church in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Burial will take place later in the spring in Oakhill Cemetery in New London, Minnesota. Memorial gifts may be sent to the Benevolence Fund of Covenant Living of the Great Lakes, 2510 Lake Michigan Drive, NW, Grand Rapids, MI 49504, or to a charity of one’s choosing.

Peace be to her memory.
