Heather Hernandez will join the Covenant denominational team as vice president of mission services. In this role, she will lead areas of advancement, marketing and communications, human resources, technology, and facilities. The new position was created after the organizational restructuring in 2023. In collaboration with the president of the denomination, she will serve alongside the vice president of mission priorities and the vice president of finance to formulate ministry priorities and strategies to implement Covenant initiatives.
With more than 15 years of human resources leadership experience, Heather has most recently been serving as senior human resources officer at a Christian nonprofit social service organization serving vulnerable youth, families, and older adults through programs including psychological testing, mental health counseling, case management, and transitional housing. She is a Senior Certified Human Resource Professional (SHRM-SCP) and has been a member of the senior leadership team, partnering with executive staff in the generation and implementation of organization-wide strategic initiatives. She has also provided resource development leadership in a volunteer capacity for a DuPage County nonprofit in the Chicago suburbs.
She earned her bachelor’s in history from Wheaton College.
“I am excited to get to know the Covenant team and look forward to discovering how I can support and build into the good work that is already being done,” she said.
President Tammy Swanson-Draheim adds, “I am grateful for the many who have prayed for our new VP of mission services. Heather is indeed an answer to prayer. Not only does she come with a significant human resource background; she is a wise and gracious leader.”
She will begin her new responsibilities on December 2.
