Tenet Healthcare to Acquire Emanuel Medical Center

TURLOCK, CA (February 21, 2013) – Emanuel Medical Center has entered into a definitive agreement with Tenet Healthcare Corporation to be acquired by the Dallas-based healthcare organization sometime during the second quarter of this year, subject to customary approvals and other closing conditions, it was announced today.

The 209-bed Turlock hospital is administered by Covenant Ministries of Benevolence on behalf of the Evangelical Covenant Church. Under terms of the agreement, Emanuel Medical Center will retain its affiliation with the Covenant Church and its faith-based culture and practices, according to Tenet, which has significant experience acquiring hospitals from faith-based organizations and maintaining their religious identities and missions.

Emanuel also will retain its presence and identity as a community hospital dedicated to serving the healthcare needs of the Turlock community. Click here to read a December story in the Modesto Bee for additional insights.

“The acquisition of Emanuel Medical Center represents a significant step in expanding Tenet’s integrated healthcare network in California’s Central Valley region,” the Tenet announcement states. Emanuel Medical Center will join Doctors Medical Center of Modesto and Doctors Hospital of Manteca in providing patient-centered care in the region.

This expanded network will enhance patient care through more efficient coordination of healthcare delivery, integration of physician groups, development of additional outpatient facilities in locations convenient for patients, and expansion of Tenet’s accountable care offerings in the Central Valley.

“We all share the same deep commitment to meeting the community’s healthcare needs and providing patients with expanded choices for care as part of an integrated healthcare network,” said Jeff Koury, senior vice president for Tenet’s California region. “Emanuel is a natural fit for Tenet’s expanding network in the Central Valley to provide the community and our patients coordinated care that is close to home,” Koury added. “We are excited to work with the dedicated and talented employees and physicians . . . who provide exemplary medical care within the community.”

Tenet Healthcare Corporation through its subsidiaries operates 49 hospitals, 117 freestanding outpatient centers, and Conifer Health Solutions, a leader in business process solutions for healthcare providers serving more than 600 hospital and other clients nationwide.
