A Ministry of Make and Deepen Disciples

Embrace Webinars

This section promotes healthy dialogue and continued learning around a variety of topics related to our faith, gender, and sexuality. Each webinar is hosted by a member of the Make and Deepen Disciples team, and each guest is in harmony with the adopted position of the ECC. Upcoming webinars are promoted monthly to the Embrace email list, or you can register online. Each webinar is recorded and available here.

Please feel free to e-mail us with questions or comments at embrace@covchurch.org and be sure to sign up for our mailing list to receive updates on all things Embrace.

Upcoming Spring Webinars

The word gospel means “good news.” But many have wondered: if God does not affirm same-sex relationships, can the gospel really be good news to gay people? We will explore this question together with Laurie Krieg, the founder and executive director of Hole in My Heart Ministries, a compassionate teaching, writing, and podcasting ministry focused on equipping Jesus-followers with a gospel-centered approach to sexuality. The vision of Hole in My Heart Ministries is to see the church become a safe place that cultivates wholeness and holiness for people wrestling with issues related to sexuality. In addition to ministering to hundreds of LGBTQ+ people, Laurie herself experiences attractions toward her same gender and has personally engaged in the deep questions about how God’s good gospel applies to her own journey and ours.

Caring for today’s teenagers is both a wonderful calling and a complex undertaking. Given the increasingly fluid perspective of human sexuality with “Generation Z,” thoughtful and collaborative care must be the foundation of youth ministry sexual discipleship. How can a larger biblical narrative of human sexuality bolster our youth, parents, and youth workers in these discipleship efforts? Dr. Walt Mueller has written extensively on youth ministry and biblical sexuality. For the past several years, he has also hosted the Symposium on Traditional Biblical Sexuality and Youth Ministry at Gordon Conwell Theological Seminary. Join ECC Director of Youth Ministry Tim Ciccone for a conversation with Dr. Mueller that will highlight key learnings from this symposium and beyond.

Bruce Miller provides practical wisdom for how a church can approach ministering to and alongside people who identify their sexuality in diverse ways. We will explore church-tested pastoral insights to help think through day-to-day decisions such as how to handle membership, baptism, retreats, small groups, volunteering, the Lord’s Supper, weddings, funerals, teaching, hiring, and pastoral care. Bruce Miller has served as pastor of Christ Fellowship Church in McKinney, Texas, since 1997. He speaks at churches, organizations, and conferences about the culture’s changing views on human sexuality and its impact on the church. His new book, Leading a Church in a Time of Sexual Questioning, will be published in April.
